Oh Diana, I just don’t know what’s wrong with me. Although I don’t have much to grumble about in my lifet I feel so tired and find it difficult to even get out of bed in the morning. I lack energy and it’s making me miserable… What can I do to motivate myself?
Victoria Penny….Ipswich

After a good night’s sleep we should feel refreshed so what’s bothering you Penny? Don’t underestimate how emotions can take a toll on energy. Maybe you’re anxious, depressed about family or money problems, or worried who will take care of you in the future? Are you staying up too late, drinking too much coffee or alcohol, all which affect quality of sleep? If you smoke this causes breathing problems and drains energy, but if boredom’s a problem use your time better and volunteer to help others less fortunate than yourself.
Regular physical activity helps reduce depression and benefits overall well-being. Exercise classes will improve your appetite, energy, and outlook, and classes such as tai chi or yoga can benefit your balance and talking with class mates and sharing each other’s problems puts things into perspective. Or just go walking which will invigorate you and being out in the fresh air is beneficial to both body and mind.
If the problem continues consult your doctor. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a condition in which fatigue lasts 6 months or longer. Or maybe medications like antidepressants or antihistamines are disagreeing with you. Fatigue could be symptomatic of another problem such as anaemia, irregular thyroid activity.
